Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the insignia attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
