Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under house arrest.

The ex-president was sentenced of plotting a military coup in the ninth month and given more than over two decades in prison, but he continued under confinement pending appeals.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Justice Moraes said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a precautionary step after recent developments came to light.

This involved trying to remove his tracking device and a summons to a public vigil that could "allow for a potential flight.

Legal Document Reveals Escape Risks

In a paperwork permitting the custody, the judge said information from the unit overseeing Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the one-time head of state's plan to remove the surveillance device to guarantee victory in his getaway".

This, it said, would be made easier by the chaos caused by the protest called by his offspring.

His child, Flávio, who holds office as a legislator, called for a assembly of his backers near the former president's residence to take place on Saturday night.
